Note: I am feigning excitement. Well... not entirely. I do enjoy a clean slate as much as the next guy. But, to be honest, having so many holidays squished so closely together does wear on a girl.
Last year I wrote a rant about my hatred of New Years resolutions. I still don't like them much, but I've decided to get into the spirit and comprimise a little. Rather than resolving to change things in my life, I'm resolving to continue doing the things that have been making me happy, and to take them a step further.
1. I resolve to continue on the path to good health. It feels so amazingly peaceful to be comfortable inside my own skin for the first time since the 10th grade. To think I look cute naked. To know I'm investing in my future. So I resolve to continue going to the gym, relishing in the heart thumping, deep breathing, sweaty clothing, artery de-clogging time I spend there. I resolve to continue my love affair with my bed, and perhaps rendezvous with it a little earlier each night. I resolve to feel no guilt for loving myself and my body. I shall shout to the trees, "I would rather be egotistical than question my worth!"
2. I resolve to remain stress-free about money. I hate it, so I might as well avoid conflict with it. So, in addition to that, I resolve to spend less money on things that are disposable, or things I don't need, or things I don't care about. I will limit outgoing long distance phone calls. I will spend less money on food... after all, that's just paying to poop, and I don't even like pooping THAT much. I resolve to spend more on things that I love. I will allow myself to take photos. I will snowboard until my legs fall off. And I will feel no guilt.
3. I resolve to devote even more time to my creative side. I feel so satisfied when I have created something - when I have some kind of tangible product to show for my time. I will master my sewing machine. I will leave more time to draw, paint, and write. I will continue playing my guitar and singing myself a song before bed each night. I will work on my photography (stay tuned for my new website!). I resolve to always have one non-school book on the go.
4. I resolve to learn. I will do my homework. I will do background reading. I will get my certification for my summer job prospect. I will, at some point, take a photography class, guitar lessons, and I will get back onto the back of a horse. I will land a park jump snowboarding. I will attack life.
So there it is. These are my resolutions. And they are all achievable, because they are all continuations, rather than new ideas. We'll see how it goes...
