CLEAN!

So, I finally cleaned the room. Yes, it did take me this long. Yes, it did start to smell. Liz told me she thought it smelled nice... like incense. I had to break it to her that I burn incense to cover up the bad smell.

In the midst of cleaning the room I got a phone call. It was a boy - well, a 26 year old boy - and if I'm not mistaken, I think he asked me out. I'm glad it was a bit ambigous, because I could say no without embarrassment. I mean, it was flattering, but he's a 26 year old boy. Besides, I have my sights set elsewhere.

I have to open work tomorrow. They gave me a key and everything, which means I have to go. At least I'll get a lot of reading done.

I've been trying to read The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers. I'm determined to read it before the movie comes to theatres, but it's sort of slow-going. In today's rush to get to work I couldn't find my copy, so I let myself take Kerouac instead: The Dharma Bums. Beautiful book. So far I like it even better than On The Road. It's the kind of writing I'm in the mood for right now. So beautiful, that crazy beat poet.

Kaitlin's ravings about Kerouac last year were what sparked me to read him - before that all I knew of the beat movement was a vague idea about people who wore all black and snapped (instead of clapped) while poetry was read. How wrong I was. I'll share with you the passage from On The Road that made me understand Kaitlin's obsession, and made me love it also.

(I think Kaitlin may have posted this passage in her journal before... I'm not trying to copy hon, just spreadin' the sweet word)
